Love Finds A Way In

July 30, 2014 — When their father unexpectedly comes home in a good mood, full of smiles and kisses, his children don?t know what to make of it, but their delight at leaving their shabby home for a new, brighter future quickly dims when men burst through the door and start shooting. When it?s all over, Laura?s father and two sisters are dead, notes this new novel, leaving Laura as the sole survivor. Her struggle to survive includes a mysterious young man, adoptive family and unexpected setbacks.

?The Fathers? Sins? stars Laura, who has just lost another parent. She and her older sister, Patty, cared for their younger sister in the wake of their mother?s death in childbirth. Now she must face the loss of everyone she holds dear. She encounters a man named Tony who seems like a dream come true and they begin to fall in love. But Tony has a secret and transforms into someone Laura doesn?t recognize, threatening her security and faith, and she leaves.

Eventually Laura learns to trust again, helped by the warmth of her new adoptive parents and sister. An unexpected accident claims a life, and Laura finds people from her past have again entered her present. A chance for love and redemption may be possible, but it will take courage, faith in God and a miracle to help it become a reality.

Author Adriana Parrinello, the youngest of five children in a traditional Sicilian family, grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. Although she began writing a novel while in her teens, she wasn?t able to finish it. She began writing again when her husband, Matteo, helped care for their three children, combining her passion for writing with her faith. Parrinello has finished the sequel to ?The Fathers? Sins? as well as the third novel in the Christian-inspired series. She is already working on a prequel to the first book.

Use These Tips To Handle

If you are a first time homeowner or maybe someone who has just moved out of Mom and Dad’s humble abode, you may not know a lick about plumbing, but there are certain things that you should know. This article will discuss some of them, and you will be more knowledgeable after reading the tips below.

Make sure you know where your home’s water shutoff is located. You never know when there might be an emergency involving a broken pipe or damaged connection that requires you to turn off the water right away. In addition, knowing where the shutoff is located is vital before you start any plumbing project, in case anything goes wrong.

Roots from a tree in your back yard can be a real headache when it comes to plumbing. Make sure if you have a big tree or bush or some kind of plant with a big root system, that you ask your plumbing company about root killing agents. You can flush these down your toilet and kill any roots that may be blocking your pipes and save yourself a lot of money by stopping a back up before it happens.

Use your garbage disposal with the cold water running so that you can preserve the blades of the disposal. Using hot water makes grease more liquid and can cause problems, including clogs. Make sure to clean blades by putting in a little dish detergent and run cold water at the same time.

Use cold water when using your garbage disposal. The blades will stay sharper, and the overall disposal process will run smoother. If you use hot water, any grease in the disposal will liquefy, causing it to accumulate further down the drain, which could cause clogs.

Don’t start any do-it-yourself plumbing project without having a plan in place. You need to know beforehand exactly what you are getting yourself into. Know what kind of space you are working with and what lines are which. Getting a clear picture early on will make your plumbing project go a lot smoother!

Frozen pipes can cause you to incur expensive plumbing repair bills. Fortunately, frozen pipes are easy to prevent. First, you need to check your outside pipe to make sure it has the proper insulation. When cold weather sets in, turn off your outside faucets, disconnect all hoses and drain them. This can save some serious money on pipe repairs over time.

Make sure to pour a gallon or two of water into drains that are used infrequently. Not only does this make sure that they are clear when you need them, but can also fill the trap and make sure that unpleasant odors don’t enter your home. Doing this periodically will also help you to catch problems before they become serious.

Do not place items in the toilets that do not belong there. For example, if you are a female, do not throw away sanitary pads or tampons in your toilet. This could cause severe damage to your toilet that could require a plumber, or even worse, a whole new toilet!

If you have a lot of hair in your shower drain, be sure to get a stopper and put it in the drain. This will catch the hair from going down the drain, which can clog it. Just make sure that you remove hair that is already in the drain before using the stopper.

When searching for a good plumber you should always check references. It is easy to just go with the lowest price, but you have to do your research and make sure the plumber has a good reputation with the people they have done work for in the past so you do not get a bad plumber.

Have a specific plumber in mind before you have an emergency. Most people don’t think about plumbers until they find themselves having a big problem that needs to be fixed right away. Instead, choose a plumber who you are comfortable with and whose experience you trust–way before you actually need his services.

When having a consultation about a job with the plumber, take the opportunity to get to know them andtheir business better. Ask about their experience with the type of job that you are wanting to have done. Being comfortable with your contractor is important. They may be spending significant amounts of time in your house depending on the complexity of the job. You want to be convinced that they’re up to the task.

Make sure to never leave any flammable liquids near your water heater. Certain liquids like gasoline, solvents, or adhesives are flammable, and if left too close to the water heater, can ignite. If you have to have these liquids in your basement, place it far away from your water heater.

People are often hesitant to begin home plumbing jobs because they feel they could end up making the situation much worse. If you know one thing, you can easily avoid this. The key to saving your home from water damage is to know exactly where the water register is, and how to turn it off quickly.

Never try to undertake a project that you are unsure of. Additionally, never call on a friend to help you with something, if they are not a professoinal. There have been hundreds of good friendships ruined by a guy claiming to know exactly what he is doing, when the truth is he is clueless.

Some items can get stuck on the disposal blades, causing the drain to clog. Don’t use the garbage disposal to get rid of stringy items such as banana peels or chicken skin. Separate items that are not going in the garbage disposal from those that are when you are ready to dispose of trash. Put banana peels and similar items in your trash can and scrape the rest of your trash into the garbage disposal.

Now that you have read these plumbing tips, you should feel a little more comfortable about looking after that scary hardware that lurks in some rooms of your home. Follow the advice above and you are sure to do the right things when tinkering around with any of the pipes.

Customize Tfs Work Items And

Customize TFS Work Items and Workflows

Event on 2014-08-08 11:30:00

TFS is a powerful Application Life-cycle Management (ALM) system that will meet most development needs using one of the stock TFS templates: Scrum, Agile, or CMMI.  Most organizations will, however, have at least a tweak or two that they would like to make to the stock templates but may be apprehensive about making changes.  They need not be.  Modifying the TFS process template is not hard and mapping the TFS process to your development process will make your team more effective.  This presentation will cover the tools needed to modify the process template, common changes such as adding fields, or changing the workflow, and finally how to implement your changes into your production environment.

George is an ALM Architect/Project Manager with 20 years of experience working with companies such as Deloite Consulting, Trilogy/pcOrder, Coremetrics, and Dell. He has managed software development projects for state governments in California, Washington, Kentucky and Texas and companies such as Ingram Micro, Bay Networks, and Volvo. George helped Dell implement TFS as the complete ALM solution for the IT and product development groups. He combined the Scum and CMMI TFS 2010 templates to model the Dell SDLC and then evolved the TFS Process Teamplate to model Dell's dynamic development methodology.

George has a B.S. in Computer Science from Indiana University of Pa. and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business. He is married to Kathy and has 3 beautiful daughters. In his spare time he is a Porsche Club driving instructor and is the President of the Northwest (Austin) Softball League.

The Contortionist

Event on 2014-10-19 18:00:00

with Intervals, Polyphia
Warped time signatures, percussive mathematics, spider-fingered fretwork, dazzlingly atmospheric keyboards and immediately arresting vocals collide within THE CONTORTIONIST, who have achieved a career defining milestone with a "sophomore slump" defying feat of agility dubbed Intrinsic. The Indiana based prog-metal alchemists conjure the kinetic texture of RUSH, the cinematic musicality of DREAM THEATER, the heavy but heady metallic might of jazzy death wizards CYNIC and the studied experimental precision of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME while simultaneously fashioning an overall sound uniquely their own. In a short amount of time, THE CONTORTIONIST has enveloped audiences and nearly swallowed them whole. They've toured with a wide-ranging number of acts including PERIPHERY, ALL SHALL PERISH and THE ACACIA STRAIN. The band headlined the inaugural edition of the Summer Slaughter Survivors Tour, as well. With their earliest self-released work, THE CONTORTIONIST remade the rules within emerging genres like "deathcore" and "djent" as they evolved beyond scenes and categories, even as they were integral enough to be instrumental in defining them. The band teamed with Ken Susi of UNEARTH for their marvelously refreshing, conceptually driven debut, Exoplanet. With album number two, THE CONTORTIONIST entrusted Eyal Levi (DAATH, JOB FOR A COWBOY) and Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER) to help them capture their at once complex yet defiantly easy-to-connect-with esoteric material, which shatters the boundaries of conventional heavy music note-by-virtuosic-note.In popular culture we often hear space referred to as "The Final Frontier." And while it's true that the vast majority of our universe remains unknown and deserving of further study, much of the inner workings of human beings beg further contemplation and discovery. How wonderfully appropriate, then, that having delved into deep space with their expansive sound and contemplative narrative on the genre-challenging and wholly impressive Exoplanet, THE CONTORTIONIST turns inward with the stunningly mind-bending follow-up, Intrinsic. Whereas the first album explored the idea of earth's destruction following the inevitable collapse of our star and the ensuing search for an inhabitable planet to call home, Intrinsic dives deep inside the mind. Moving across several operatic sections, the record transports listeners on a journey through the apparent holographic reality we call "experience," through our very consciousness and metaphysical archetypes. Toward the album's conclusion the band ultimately imagines advancements in neuroscience that would broaden and challenge who we are. All of the music, of course, captures these themes. Canadian thrash architects VOIVOD would surely be proud of the band's science based subjects. Like IRON MAIDEN before them, THE CONTORTIONIST is the kind of band that can be enjoyed for the basest of reasons but can also send astute listeners running to the library, like all of the generations of people who wanted to read more about the origins of "The Flight of Icarus" or "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner." Lyrical inspiration and reference points came from a stack of research, which included books like Antonio Damasio's The Feeling of What Happens: Body and Emotion in the Making of Consciousness and Simon Young's Designer Evolution: A Transhumanist Manifesto. Immediate standout cuts "Holomovement," "Causality" (about a person having a near death experience brought on by an obsession with lucidity in dreaming and astral movement) and "Dreaming Schematics" (where scientific minds develop procedures to strengthen and multiply synaptic networks) are epics. These songs and the rest of the album's material inspire food for thought and aesthetic pleasure in equal measure. THE CONTORTIONIST continues to be a study in contrast. In their quietest, most ambient moments, the band is intimately melodic. Alternately their heavy parts are as alarmingly bombastic as possible. An emphasis on songwriting and structure has resulted in a series of musical journeys that are constantly climbing new summits. There is only one song on the album with anything like a "repeating chorus."At the same time, the band is always ever careful to tastefully balance technique with purpose. They aren't shredding for shredding's sake. Each section of every song is rooted in logic, meaning and reason. THE CONTORTIONIST has succeeded at creating intelligently tasteful metal that is as memorable and melodic as it is creative and dynamic. Within their formula, a listener paying close attention is as likely to discover elements akin to MINUS THE BEAR as MESHUGGAH. Just as different genre-pushing bands broadened their own minds, the men in THE CONTORTIONIST are happy to lead fans through the gateway of heavy music down pathways of new music and self-discovery. With fervent attention to every detail of their composition and presentation, the band's future in the pantheon of heavy music is assured. Intrinsic is the next step in what will become a landmark catalog. THE CONTORTIONIST opens minds from within and without.

The John Marshall Law School

July 30, 2014

The John Marshall Law School in Chicago has been awarded LEED Silver Certification. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

?This certification honors our commitment to educating our students in an innovative and sustainable environment, in the heart of our architecturally and culturally rich city,? Dean John E. Corkery said.

John Marshall?s campus expansion began in 2011. The project converted more than 3,600 square feet of first-floor retail space into a new student commons, cafeteria and main entrance onto Chicago?s iconic State Street. The new entrance is set off by a glass canopy and students walk into an expansive entryway. A specially designed glass and steel staircase off the lobby gives students access to the renovated student lounge area on the second floor.

The renovation also included the creation of the clinical and classroom space for the school?s Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic (VLSC). After meticulous research, that space was designed specifically to meet the needs of veterans who might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

John Marshall achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

General contractor Bulley & Andrews, LLC performed the renovation work designed by architectural firm Griskelis Young Harrell Architects, both of Chicago.

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Over 44,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 8 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 120 countries.

?With each new LEED-certified building, we get one step closer to USGBC?s vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation,? said Rick Fedirizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council. ?As the newest member of the LEED family of green buildings, The John Marshall Law School is an important addition to the growing strength of the green building movement.?

About The John Marshall Law School

The John Marshall Law School, founded in 1899, is an independent law school located in the heart of Chicago?s legal, financial and commercial districts. Through classes, clinics and special programs, students develop the strategic, analytical and transactional lawyering skills that are so valuable to employers. Its excellent curriculum, coupled with outstanding skills and experiential learning, help make John Marshall graduates practice-ready from day one. For practicing attorneys, John Marshall offers nine LLM degrees, more than any other law school in the Midwest. John Marshall also is a leader in providing distance education options in intellectual property, estate planning and employee benefits at the advanced graduate degree level. John Marshall offers eight clinical experiences, including the nationally recognized Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic and the Fair Housing Legal Clinic. U.S. News & World Report?s America?s Best Graduate Schools 2015 edition ranks John Marshall?s Lawyering Skills Program second and its Intellectual Property Law program 12th in the nation.

Oldest Bars In San Francisco

July 29, 2014

In a city that is steeped in new technology, San Franciscans are still traditionalists at heart. They love their bars with a sense of history. These spots preserve the city?s history, cultural identity and make some darn good drinks.

SF Heritage, which works preserve and enhance San Francisco?s unique architectural and cultural identity, has compiled a guide to more than 130 ?heritage bars and restaurants? throughout San Francisco, available at

Here are the oldest, most remarkable bars, each worth a visit.

Bernal Heights

Wild Side West , Established: 1962

424 Cortland Ave.,

This lesbian-friendly bar was named after the Barbara Stanwyck film, ?Walk on the Wild Side.? In the 1970s, this bar was vandalized when broken toilets and sinks were thrown through the windows and landed in the backyard. Out of the destruction came one of the city’s best outdoor patios, which still exists today. A bar that welcomed Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin back in the day welcomes everyone who walks through their doors.

The Castro

Twin Peaks Tavern , Established: 1935

401 Castro St.,

An emblem of the gay community, Twin Peaks was designated an historical bar in 2013. The bar is the first known gay bar to feature full length plate glass windows, openly revealing the identities of their patrons. Sitting at the intersection of Castro and Market streets, Twin Peaks stands as a gateway to the neighborhood.

Cafe du Nord, Established: 1908

2174 Market St.,

Sitting in an area where the Swedish community once thrived, Cafe du Nord occupies the basement of the San Francisco Swedish Society. The bar itself has one of the two music venues in the space (the other being the Swedish American Hall). For more than 100 years, Cafe Du Nord has maintained its intimate mood of a speakeasy with rich, dark colors of red and black. In 2013, the lease changed hands and the property has been undergoing renovations. Cafe du Nord plans to reopen in the Fall of 2014.

Red’s Place, Established: 1960

672 Jackson St.,

Known as “Cheers” of Chinatown, Red’s Place was the site of the annual firecracker tradition when the Chinese New Year Parade would march by. Although the original owners have passed, the bar is still owned and operated by the family.

Civic Center

Great American Music Hall , Established: 1907

859 O’Farrell St.,

Sitting on the border of Civic Center and Nob Hill sits Great American Music Hall. In 1907 it was a restaurant and bordello. Today it is a music venue that has hosted acts from Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan and Count Basie to Van Morrison, the Grateful Dead, Arcade Fire and Patti Smith.

Dogpatch Saloon , Established: 1912

2496 3rd St.,

Originally the site of a revival saloon, Dogpatch Saloon became a “soft” drink store when Prohibition was passed. After Prohibition, the bar was quickly started serving alcohol again. In the 90s, ?Dogpatch? was added to the title, making it the first to include the name of the neighborhood into the business name.

The Embarcadero

Old Ship Saloon, Established: 1851

298 Pacific Ave.,

The oldest bar in San Francisco (Elixir will have something to say about that), Old Ship Saloon is a bar made out of a ship hull that ran aground during a storm off of Alcatraz. It was later towed to the current location at the beach. Since renovated, the bar still preserves the memory of the ship.

Fisherman’s Wharf

Alioto’s #8, Established: 1925

Eight Fisherman’s Wharf,

A tourist hotspot and a classic San Francisco bar all rolled into one. The restaurant began as a fresh fish stall on San Francisco?s Fisherman?s Wharf in 1925. Little has changed since then. Alioto?s restaurant is a culinary landmark that is still owned and operated by the descendants of Nonna Rose Alioto, showing the care and commitment of running a restaurant bearing their name.

Aub Zam Zam, Established: 1942

1633 Haight St.,

Once referred to the “Holy Shrine of the Dry Martini” by Herb Caen, Aub Zam Zam holds a special piece of history with the city. The owner, Bruno Mooshei, was so historically ornery that it became a game among patrons to see who could stay in the bar the longest. Bruno would throw someone out for something as trivial as putting the wrong song on the jukebox or not ordering a drink he liked. Today they are certainly friendlier. Cash only.

Marina District

Bus Stop Saloon, Established: 1900

1901 Union St.

Still going strong since the turn of the century, the Bus Stop Saloon has gone through four generations of family ownership. Wall-to-wall TVs, pool tables, buckets of beer and a Pac-Man console attract a young, rowdy crowd that is sure to keep this bar kicking for generations to come.

Mauna Loa Club, Established: 1939

3009 Fillmore Street

A tribute to the Hawaiian volcano, Mauna Loa is a blue-collar bar in the trendsetting neighborhood of the Marina. The 1980s saw the inclusion of a pool table and Pop-a-Shot, but the bar still retains much of its charm.

Horseshoe Tavern, Established: 1934

2024 Chestnut St.,

A regulars? bar if there ever was one. The original owner was a former football player of the team that would become the 49ers. Located on an upscale street in San Francisco, the “Shoe” remains a San Francisco classic.

Mission District

The Homestead ,Established: 1906

2301 Folsom St.,

Opened in 1906 as the “Old Homestead,” there’s evidence in this Mission bar that it was a speakeasy during Prohibition. There’s a private room in the back ? it doesn’t get more obvious than that. Of all the old bars in the city, the Homestead maintains much of the same decor that was around during at the turn of the last century.

Elbo Room , Established: 1935

647 Valencia St.,

Since 1935, the Elbo Room has been many things: a Spanish restaurant, a western bar and one of the nation?s first lesbian dance clubs, Amelia?s, which became the anchor for the lesbian community. As the community diversified, Amelia’s no longer thrived. Since 1991, the Elbo Room has been open with the first floor operating as a bar and the second floor a performance/dance space.

Elixir, Established: 1858

3200 16th St.,

At 16th and Guerrero sits arguably the oldest bar in the city, Elixir. Since the Wild West days, Elixir has been transformed into many things. In 2003 the bar and d?cor were fully restored, returning it to its original glory.

Shotwell’s, Established: 1891

3349 20th St.,

Shotwell?s originally opened as a grocery store saloon by German immigrants with a backroom for beer drinking. Today it’s simply known as Shotwell’s, a place where people come to meet, drink beer and play pinball. It serves only beer, but its beer that is well curated to include many micro-brews from the Bay Area.

Nob Hill

Gangway Bar, Established: 1910

841 Larkin St.

Billing itself the oldest gay bar in the city, Gangway was around long before the Castro became an LGBT neighborhood. In the 60s, the Gangway was part of the Tavern Guild, a coalition of gay bar owners and liquor wholesalers, paving the way to host numerous community events. Today the interior pays tribute to many famous figures throughout the LGBT community’s history.

Ha-Ra Club, Established: 1947

875 Geary Blvd.

Opened in 1947 by a former boxer, Ha-Ra Club has been anchor for the neighborhood. Today, the interior displays memorabilia reminiscent of the past. This bar has the essentials: liquor, a pool table and a jukebox.

North Beach

Mr. Bing’s , Established: 1967

201 Columbus Ave.

Mr. Bing’s is a dive bar with a spectacular view of Broadway and Columbus streets. People still keep coming back for the inexpensive drinks and shrewd bartenders.

Vesuvio Cafe, Established: 1948

255 Columbus Ave.,

A regular hangout of beatniks Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsburg, Vesuvio was the seat of the hippie revolution. As the neighborhood has evolved, the bar has become a tribute to jazz, art and poetry.

Spec’s Twelve Alder Museum Cafe , Established: 1968

12 Sayoran Place

Another staple of Bohemian culture in North Beach, Spec’s has been an enclave of that has become a haven for artists through the years. The interior serves houses Spec’s curated collection of zany artifacts.

Northstar Cafe, Established: 1882

1560 Powell St.

The oldest bar in North Beach, Northstar is a comfortable neighborhood bar with a lively character, including such eccentricities a customer-of-the month award and a perpetual supply of free popcorn for its happy patrons.

Gino and Carlo Cocktail Lounge and Sports Bar , Established: 1942

548 Green St.,

This is a true classic North Beach sports bar and lounge, family-owned for more than 50 years, Italian and proud of it.

Tony Nik’s Cafe , Established: 1933

1534 Stockton Street,

When Prohibition was repealed in 1933, Tony immediately opened Tony Nicco’s Caf?, one of the first bars in North Beach. Tony Nicco’s was called a caf? because, at that time, food was required to be served with alcohol. Step in and step back in time. Entering Tony Nik’s will bring you back to an era of friendly and professional bartenders, ice cold beer, delicious cocktails and drinks served just the way you like them.

Today, the Utah is the home to the most intimate concert venue in the city.

House of Shields , Established: 1912

39 New Montgomery St.,

One of the city?s most famous speakeasies during Prohibition, House of Shields didn’t actually open up as a bar until 1944. How famous? There’s an urban legend that President Warren G Harding died at this bar and then was taken through the tunnels underneath to the Palace Hotel where he was found.. House of Shields now stands as a shining example of expertly poured drinks.

Sunset District

Little Shamrock, Established: 1890s

807 Lincoln Way

The oldest business in the Sunset, Little Shamrock has been a favorite watering hole of visitors to the nearby Golden Gate Park for more than a century. Legend has it that the Shamrock first opened in 1893 in another neighborhood entikrely but relocated to its current location by 1896, where to this day, people love to have a beer and play darts.

West Portal

Philosopher’s Club, Established: 1960

824 Ulloa St.

In the often overlooked but lovable neighborhood of West Portal sits the Philosopher’s Club, the home of the man who started mixology, Jerry Thomas (he wrote the first book on the topic). Come for the history and the quotes on the ceiling, but stay for the drinks.

North End, Portrait of a City

Event on 2014-07-27 09:30:00

Since its founding in 1630, Boston has embodied many of the historical themes that have shaped America including commerce, political revolution, social innovation, and waves of immigration that formed the backbone of this northern capital. Of all the city's neighborhoods none symbolizes and captures the essence of Boston than its North End, a maze of winding colonial-era streets and the backdrop to some of the most significant moments in American history. During this three-hour walking seminar with a local historian we will explore North End's back alleys and side streets, painting a portrait of Boston's evolution from the 17th to the 21st century.
We begin our walk near the Blackstone Block, a small network of alleyways and structures dating back to the colonial era. John Hancock lived here, and several of the buildings still stand relatively unaltered from the 18th century. Using the streets themselves as visual clues we'll consider the topographical advantages of the North End—nearly separated from the mainland by inlets and swamps—for the early settlers in Boston. Our perambulations will take us through Haymarket, one of the city's longest standing outdoor markets and a place where northenders still buy their groceries.
Tracing a path along streets that still bear the names of important Bostonians or long vanished features we'll discuss the major developments of the North End as it evolved into one of the busiest shipping ports on the Atlantic seaboard during the colonial era and became America's gateway to Europe. We'll use some of the old storefronts and pubs to discuss the rise of a longshoreman class and shipping industry and paint a portrait of the ethnic and racial changes the North End witnessed as freed blacks and Portuguese whalers settled in the district, followed by Jews, Irish, and eventually Italians. Of course, the neighborhood's importance is etched on our collective memory through the famous ride of Paul Revere on the eve of the American Revolution, and we will look deeply into how the character of this corner of Boston informed and influenced the radicalism of those events, stopping along the way at such important 18th century monuments as Paul Revere's house and the Old North Church.
North End is a palimpsest of history, with fragments of different centuries all woven together. As a result, we will jump forward at key moments to consider the industrial revolution and Boston's decline as New York overtook it in shipping and the factories of the North End moved to the suburbs and then farther afield. Old warehouses, wharves, and tenaments are now converted into cafes, restaurants, and condominiums, often stitched delicately into the architecture and context of the city's history. Depending on time and how our conversation unfolds we may end the walk down at the waterfront where a park commemorates the Italian immigrants who've defined the North End in the last hundred years. With kinetic Boston harbor behind us and the new linear park leftover from the "big dig" before us, we'll look back at the North End with a unique sense of its role in Boston and American history.

Tips For Successfully Improving Your

Many people are reluctant to admit that they have bad credit. Bad credit is caused by inability to pay financial debts, such as those caused by credit cards or loans. Bad credit can be troublesome, but it can be repaired. The tips found in this article will help you with credit repair.

If you repair your credit score, you will end up paying less in security deposits. Landlords and utility companies alike charge more in security deposits for customers with a lower credit score, since those customers are considered to be a higher risk for default. Of course you get it back later, but there’s no reason to force yourself to pay it out at all.

Many people don’t realize that moving around a lot can also lower your credit score. Creditors will see you as unreliable and un-rooted if you change your address more than once every couple of years. If you are the type who can’t help but move often, consider getting a P.O. Box or other steady mail location where you can have all your bills and credit cards sent. This will reduce the risk that these companies realize you have moved.

By paying your debt and bills on time, you show your creditors that you can be trusted. They will raise your credit limits accordingly, which has a good effect on your credit report. This also allows you to manage your finances much more comfortably than with a low credit limit.

An important tip to consider when working to repair your credit is to pay your bills on time. This is one of the most important steps for maintaining good credit and preventing your score from dropping. Bad marks for past due accounts will stay on your account for five to seven years.

An important tip to consider when working to repair your credit is to make sure you exhaust all possible resources before considering bankruptcy. This is important because bankruptcy will remain on your report for 10 years and is extremely hard to come back from. Always consult with a credit counselor beforehand.

Before you commit to a settlement, you should first determine exactly how the agreement will affect your credit. Some methods are less damaging than others; research them all before making an agreement with your creditor. Debt settlers are more interested in their money than your credit rating.

If you feel you have been scammed by a credit repair organization, it is important to know that many states now have laws which regulate these companies. Quite frequently, state law enforcement officials can provide help if you have lost money with a credit repair scam. You should contact the office of your state Attorney General or your local consumer affairs office to ascertain what legal action you may take.

To ensure that your credit history is accurate and up to date obtain regular credit reports and carefully inspect each one. An error on your credit report can drastically affect your ability to obtain loans. There is no reason for you to suffer for a mistake that you did not make.

Do not ignore credit problems. They will not go away. Approach credit repair goals with a can- do attitude. You may have to give up some luxury items along the way, but a high cost cell phone plan and designer boots are worth far less than a good credit rating.

Get out the scissors, and cut up some of that plastic. If you have a lot of credit cards, limit yourself to one or two from now on. Having too much credit can actually be frowned upon by creditors and lower your credit score, especially if you use it all.

When repairing your credit, the first step is to find out what the top three credit bureaus are saying about you. These companies are Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. Finding your own credit report is free, so do not fall for a company looking to charge you to find out what they are saying, research it yourself!

If you have been having trouble paying your bills on time, this will negatively affect your credit score. Maintaining a lengthy history of timely payments is key to establishing a good credit history. The longer you pay your bills on time, the better your score will be. Try to make sure you pay your bills on time each month. Even a single missed payment can hurt.

Repair your credit by building it up again. If you use a credit card that is prepaid you can build up your credit and not have any bad credit reports. This helps prove to lenders that you’re credit worthy and responsible.

It is important to not be lazy or hold off repairing your credit even if you do not have a need for loans in the near future. Bad credit can affect other areas of your life also. For example, many employers will look at credit as one way to measure the responsibility of a potential employee. Insurance companies also use credit as a factor in determining premiums because of a correlation between poor credit and increased claims.

When sending letters to a credit bureau or debt collection agency, send everything by certified mail. Also check the box that states return receipt requested. This will act as your insurance form, proving the letter was sent and giving you documentation of when it was received. Failing to do this could cost you.

One important step in repairing credit is to get some type of installment loan. This differs from the revolving credit associated with credit card accounts. Purchase a used car with a co-signer or from a buy here pay here location that reports to the credit bureau and pay that loan off in a timely manner. This will increase your credit score dramatically.

As stated in the article above, many people have bad credit. Bad credit is caused by individuals being unable to pay debts. While bad credit is trouble, it is not impossible to repair. If you remember the tips that were in this article, you too can repair your credit.

Things You Should Know About

You may consider video games as toys for kids. That assessment is wrong. The truth is there are a wide variety of video games that even adults love, such as trivia games and exercise games. The universe of gaming is quite broad, but the piece that follows includes lots of useful advice.

If you are buying a game for your children (or another child you know) discuss the purchase with them first. Don’t just buy on a whim. Sports games are quite different from RPG games, so if they have a particular interest, you want to make sure that you know what that is.

To master a video game, practice all that you can. When you feel like you’ve practiced enough, stop, breathe and then practice some more. Video games are a passion for many players, and if you expect to compete online, your skill sets will need to be honed extremely well.

The website “” is a great place to visit to see if your game is compatible on your PC. After a download, this cool page will determine if you meet the requirements for a particular game. If you’re afraid to download it, keep in mind that you can always delete it afterwards.

When you buy used video games, always check the disc before they sell it to you. Getting home to find out that the game is scratched and doesn’t work is a pain. You’ll waste time and gas going back to the store. Plus, you may only be able to get store credit back and this could be the only copy they had. Make sure you’re getting a good copy.

Take the plunge into the pre-owned video game market. Many gamers will purchase a game and finish the game quite quickly. Many stores allow these games to be traded in and then sell them at a reduced cost. This could be the most cost-effective way for you to get newer games without the high cost.

Encourage your children to play on consoles rather than computers. Typically, you are able to regulate their gaming more on consoles, through various privacy and security settings. A console gaming session means your kids can play approved games, and you can relax knowing they are safe.

Only a few games give you the convenience of making a real-world clock accessible in the game itself. This can be a problem with full-screen games. You don’t want them taking up more of your time than you can afford; position a clock of your own close to your screen so that you can keep track of how long you’ve been playing.

For a cheaper way to enjoy great video games, look into “classic” games. These titles are years (or even decades) old, but they’ve been upgraded to run on modern computers and consoles. They’re usually quite affordable and usually very beloved. When a game stands the test of time, you can be fairly certain that it has considerable quality.

Make sure that you know what video games your children are playing. Some video games are packed full of violent scenes that are designed to be viewed by mature adults only. You need to ensure that your children are not being exposed to excessive graphic violence while they are playing video games.

When playing some of the longer games on your console system, make sure to take a break and get away from the screen. Go outside for a few minutes and let your eyes adjust. Stretch your legs. You will start to notice how much better you play the games when you take these short breaks.

Try to find rich, entertaining games that have some educational value for your children. These games will not only provide fun for your child, but can also teach them something as well. This will help to broaden your children’s horizons and set a strong foundation for their morals as they will be getting something out of it.

If you are a gamer, think of investing in a quality television which can give you a quality display of your gaming material. This is especially applicable to those who frequently play sports games, as you will want to get the most out of your graphics to maximize your overall game play.

When you are looking to purchase video games, it is imperative that the store you purchase from is reliable. Always ask if the store accepts returns. If a game looks good based on the graphics, but doesn’t deliver, you need backup. If the store doesn’t allow returns, choose a store that does!

If you are waiting for the newest gaming systems, be prepared to wait just a little longer. Console gaming systems are typically a loss for the manufacturer. The amount of research and development involved makes them not profitable when released. The manufacturers make the money on the back end on the games and online purchases.

In order to keep your gaming under control, try to plan out gaming sessions with definitive limits. Whether you intend to play for a fixed amount of time or until you reach a certain goal, have a clear stopping point in mind before you pick up that controller. Even the best game is no good if you play it obsessively.

Although you might believe that purchasing video games is a simple process, there are a lot of things you must take into account. Avoid spending your money on a game you will not enjoy by doing some research. Read reviews online before you even consider spending your money.

Develop a system for what you will do with games you have finished. You may sell them; you may give them to friends, or you might just keep them. You just need to develop a system that allows you to make room for new games that you want to play.

You do not have to be young to play video games. Apply the tips from this article to help guide you through the gaming world. These tips can help you with your gaming experience no matter which type of game you are playing.
